It will come as no surprise that this year's Best Banger Award has been won by a publican which just goes to prove that the pub is indeed the true home of the great British Banger!

Keith Berkins af The Fence Gate Inn at Burnley, Lancashire, not only won the Best Pub Sausage category but won the Overall Best Sausage award too.

The Royal Standard of England, a traditional country pub featuring in The Good Pub Guide, is hitting the news again. After its success as a double winner at last year's event, it has now been short-listed in four categories this year for the Publican Food and Drink Awards 2008:

- Food Pub of the Year
- Classic Food Pub of the Year
- Speciality Beer Pub of the Year

Now would be a great time to try one of the Royal Standard of England pub walks as this already excellent contender may well be trying even harder to please - they will need to be ready for surprise visits from The Publican as they select their overall winners for each category.

Forty Green is a small hamlet surrounded by ancient beech woodlands, grazing pasture and quiet country lanes and great birdwatching territory. Combine that with a friendly, award-winning pub and you have perfect ingredients for a great pub walk.

This evening I sent out the first edition of our free 2-monthly newsletter "The Pub Walker". I hope I have captured a range of topics relating to pub walks that people will enjoy reading which include:

5. Dates for your Diary - special events, festivals and deadlines

I chose the frequency of every 2 months but if reader comments suggest this should be more or less frequent then I will change this. Hopefully feedback will help to make this newsletter better and more relevant to pub walkers with each edition.
